It seems like everyone is sick this winter. Ok, not everyone (we’ve managed to avoid it in this house) but many of my clients and friends have come down with either colds or the nasty flu. Of course rest is the first thing you should do to speed recovery but have you tried drinking hot water with ginger and lemon? If not, now’s the time to try it.
Lemon and ginger (and toss in some honey too) have their own natural medicinal qualities that are calming and boost the immune system, not to mention relieve symptoms for a cold or flu. Ginger promotes digestion and stimulates metabolism while lemons contain vitamin C and potassium. Combined, these two ingredients boost your immune system and reduce inflammation in the body.
Ginger also has the benefits of burning fat but that is dependent on many factors, such as diet, exercise and percentage of body fat. Still, ginger is a natural ingredient in many diet and “fat-burning” supplements.
Bring one cup of water to a boil. Add sliced or grated ginger (one slice will do) and the juice of one lemon and one lemon slice. Remove from heat. Let steep for 5 minutes, covered.
Feel better soon! Contact me if you’re looking for further advice about how to improve your health in the winter, I’d love to chat.
